Robin Williams’ children have donated deceased the comedian’s bike collection to charity, offering up the bikes via a Paddle 8 auction.
It turns out that Williams was quite the cyclist, amassing a collection of nearly 90 bikes. The collection includes multiple road bikes, mountain bikes, time trial bikes, touring bikes, an electric scooter, a unicycle, among others.
Williams’ bike collection spanned a whole slew of brands, including most well-known bike manufacturers like Specialized, Trek, Pinarello, Schwinn, Orbea and Colnago. But the collection also has several independent fabricated bikes, as well as some smaller bike manufacturers most may have never heard of.
At the time of the publishing of this article, the most expensive bike was the Colnago / La Carrera Master Pista, La Carrera, Futura 2000 at $22,000. The cheapest of the lot at the time of publishing was the Just Go Original Runt Mini Bike at $1,500.
Beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams was an ardent cyclist and fierce advocate for people with disabilities. This auction honors his passions. Bid on a selection of favorites from Williams’s personal bicycle collection, donated by his children, in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation and Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation
The auction closes on October 25, 2016 at 1pm ET. The bikes all look to be disassembled for shipping, so some assembly will be required. Domestic shipping charges average around $350, and it looks like shipping times vary from between 5-8 weeks.
Cycling in Chapel Hill
During the filming of Patch Adams in Chapel Hill, Williams was often seen riding his bike in the area, including joining a couple of group rides. I had no idea his cycling love was so deep though.
Williams also had befriended Lance Armstrong and had attended multiple Tour de France events.
