iTunes has come a long way from its OS X only roots of being merely a way to organize and play your music. It’s now more of a media hub — pretty crucial to all consumer electronics products Apple has released — iPods, iPhones, iPads and even the AppleTV. It’s now includes their store for music, videos, podcasts and applications.
Smart playlists are awesome and are the feature I love the most. The fairlty recently added genius setup is wonderful too. But like every hot-headed consumer, I want more. Below are a list of things that I’d love to see Apple implement with iTunes:
- Synchronizing of Play Position – Probably more than half of my iTunes listening, and close to all of my recent car listening has been to podcasts, rather than music. As it stands now, I’ve got three copies of a given podcast — at home, at work and on my iPhone (and sometimes a fourth on my less used iPod Nano)
- Cloud Syncing – I’m pretty sure this one is on its way already thanks to Apple buying lala.com. This one is also related to location as well. I’ve got multiple machines, and want my library linked everywhere. Maybe utilize this as the solution for synchronizing play position.
- Built-In Data Corrections – There are a ton of plugins and apps to help correct inconsistencies in artist names, titles, etc. It’s be great if iTunes integrated this in.
- More Smart Playlist Criteria – I don’t have specifics on this one, but want more power and options in making smart playlists. I want more qays to create creative playlists of my music library.
- Quick Tagging – This one may already exist, and I don’t know it, but it’d be great to as songs were playing, a quick way to rate, tag and edit the meta data for songs, similar to the shortcuts that exist for keywords and star ratings over in iPhoto
Those are just a few that would enhance my daily digital life. I’m sure there’s plenty more people want iTunes to do, so share your wishlist of new features for a future iTunes.
