Apple has announced that Aperture and subsequently the consumer version, iPhoto will be retired with Mavericks. Starting in the next version of the Apple operating system, OS X Yosemite, the Photos application will be the replacement.

The hope is that iPhoto’s bloated cousin will soon be retired as well, separated into smaller functional apps.
