Cycling Safety Expert Killed In Collision With Car

I’ve been out of town (down in Florida), but this has been all over the local cycling scene here in central North Carolina. Local cycling advocate and cycling safety expert, Bruce Rosar was killed in a bike / auto collision in Apex, NC. The driver’s name has not been released, which is probably in their best interest as the local cycling community is both heated and saddened by the accident.

It’s sad and unbelievable that such a cycling safety expert would lose his life in what Apex police are calling an error on his part (I believe). At the same time, I do not think we’re hearing all and/or the real story in this accident. Either way it’s a big tragedy and loss for the local cycling community.

A ghost bike has been put up at the scene of the accident.

  1. It is very difficult to believe. I’ve actually heard a few people wondering about an autopsy report. They’re wondering if Bruce might have had some sort of health issue at the time of the accident…. stroke, heart attack?
Lots of questions out there but one thing we do know is we all need to do our best to carry on what Bruce worked so hard to spread… Safe Cycling.
We may find out a little more today. Apex Police say they expect to wrap up accident report and release the information possibly this afternoon (7/14).
