Carolina Hurricanes Sold But Staying Local

Carolina HurricanesWith ticket prices continuing to rise, and attendance continuing to drop, I was really worried that the Hurricanes would be sold and moved into a market. I was half right. Carolina Hurricanes majority owner Peter Karamanos Jr. has allegedly found a buyer who’s not local, but leaving the Canes in their current North Carolina market.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Bloomberg says an investor group led by former Texas Rangers CEO Chuck Greenberg will be buying the NHL team for nearly $500 million.

Like Karamanos, the new buyer will be looking to add local investors to the ownership group.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the team, its marketing and pricing of tickets and the like.
