Co-worker shared this yesterday. I’ve never actually seen this footage, or heard these audio loops (air-to ground loop and the flight director’s loop) in their full duration.
The whole thing is amazing — obviously the fact that they’re landing on the moon and have audio/video of that, but the web site is a wealth of technology and impressive stuff too.
The two channel audio is cool and the fact the conversation “timeline” is synced with the audio. Plus, you’ve got the chart of who’s talking on both audio channels.
The more you look and listen, the more details you see. The heartrate of Neil Armstrong is in the same window as the Lunar Module Pitch Angle — which is close to synced to the relative angle of the lunar lander’s current pitch in its descent. Acronyms are also annotated in both audio loop transcripts so everyone knows that TIG is Time of Ignition and PDI is Powered Descent Initiation.
Like I said, the whole thing is just so cool — the space race first and foremost, but then the presentation and technology as well behind the web site. I just can’t get over the amount of data on such a cool event in human history.
Kudos to Thamtech staff and volunteers for making this experience happen on the Web for all to see and experience. I’m so excited to see this team take the time to do this — and do it so well.
