Dean Smith - I Don't Want to Talk About ItThe picture on the right I saw on Carolina March and thought it was appropriate and pretty much summed up my feelings of disappointment and shock

Anyway, I don’t watch NBA. The championship game of the NCAA tournament is tomorrow night, but it’s without my Heels – and as it should be after last night’s fiasco. Kansas just totally outplayed them, and embarrassed them on a national stage. Everything just absolutely fell apart. The first two games of the tourney, the Heels weren’t challenged really (Louisville was tough though) and I’m not sure if the Heels were overconfident or what. A lot of the credit though has to be given to Kansas – their defense was top notch and made the Heels look like a 16 seed, instead of the overall 1 seed.

While I probably will still watch Memphis / Kansas tomorrow (and pull for Roy’s old coaching job), the season’s over for me, and we’re in that lull between NCAA basketball’s finale and the start up of NFL/College football in August. Well, at least I’ve got my cycling!

So for the third straight Sunday, we are on the road, Durham-bound. Luckily, for our sanity, our wallets and just our need to get stuff done around the house, next weekend we’ll be staying put at home.

The bachelor party was a lot of fun last night. We did a micro brewery tour, which turned out a lot more interesting than I expected. We did dinner there, then hit up three others places around D.C. It was killing me that I wasn’t glued to the TV watching the UNC / Louisville game, but the places we went to were playing it and I got to see the entire second half and it did get hairy there for a bit as we blew the lead in the second half. But in the end, I was ecstatic – The Heels are going to the Final Four!

Go HeelsCongrats to the Tar Heels for defending their #1 seed in the 2008 NCAA Tournament thus far. The Heels started out a little slow, and Tyler Hansbrough looked frustrated early on, but little by little, the Heels’ offense pulled away from Washington State, and all fears of Washington State’s tough defense were cast away. Congrats to the Heels on another dominant game in the post-season, albeit a lower-scoring one than the first two rounds.

Tar Heels Cruise Past Cougars, 68-47

Go HeelsIt’s all over my local and UNC-related RSS feeds. Like greats like Michael Jordan before him, Tyler Hansbrough will be the last to wear his number. I’m hoping we’ll see number 50 for a long while here in the postseason this year, and rinse and repeat next year. But, whenever Hansbrough finishes his Carolina career, he’ll have his jersey in the front tier of jerseys hoisted into the rafters of the Dean E. Smith Center.

Hansbrough’s No. 50 to be Retired by UNC

Go HeelsSo even with our impressive defense and victory over rival Duke University Saturday night, we still didn’t get unanimously voted #1. Sure, we’re #1, but some defuses out there voted for Kansas (they’re a freaking #2 seed), UCLA, Memphis and Tennessee!

Oh well. It’s so awesome to finish the regular season as #1 in the nation, to have the regular season ACC title and now hoping for a great run in the ACC and NCAA tournaments!

Voting for No. 1 Spread Out, Even in Wake of UNC’s Win Over Duke

Go HeelsSweet! Congrats to the hardest working player in NCAA basketball – Psycho T, Tyler Hansbrough. I love too that he said the only way he won’t be back for his senior year is if the Heels win the national championship. Either way, the Tar Heels and Tar Heels fans win.

March Madman

Go HeelsWoo hoo! The Tar Heels are back on top of both polls, despite having a scare with Boston College’s Tyrese Rice. Thankfully, a hell of a second half brought the Heels a win in the first game in a month with Ty Lawson getting some playing time.

NCAA Men’s Basketball Rankings

Go HeelsWow, Tyrese Rice almost single-handedly knocked off the Heels. The guy had 49 of Boston College’s 80 points. In the end, the Heels’ second half performance, and eventual shut down of Rice meant the Heels finished the game 90-80.

I was really hoping Rice couldn’t hold that up the second half. Thankfully, he didn’t and that means come Monday morning, the Tar Heels should be back in the number one spot in NCAA basketball. Ty Lawson was back for the first time in almost a month, and he looked pretty good – not perfect, but I think when he’s back to his old form, and the now deeper, stronger Heels have a good chance in the ACC and NCAA Tourneys.
