Some of the comments after the article and photos suggests it may have been done for composition purposes. I think the unaltered picture shows it was to paint a better/more successful launch than reality where it was visible that one rocket failed to launch from the mobile launch vehicle. Propaganda comes in many shapes, forms and versions of subtly.
Anyway, it’s just nice to have some support for hand coding out there, and the article’s comments section offers even more.
Most of the featured companies have over time gone with simpler, cleaner logos for their present day logo. In a way, that makes sense for sure, but it’s aldo funny that as printing technologies have improved, display technology has advanced, etc. companies have gone simpler. This is amazing, and an amazing amount of work to film and composite this all. Basically, three guys wanted to recreate a landing scene, but it was literally the three of them. So they filmed themselves, the props, effects, etc. all by themselves and then did a bunch of compositing to come up with a pretty cool scene. “Saving Private Ryan” eat your heart out. Nice list of digital photographers’ pitfalls. Most are freaking obvious, but nothing wrong with a couple of reminders/reinforcers:

Filter Forge Announces Series of Free Photoshop Plug-insPosted by: Keefer in Computers, DesignWow, this sounds interesting. Too bad, the initial releases are PC only. I’ll have to keep my eyeballs peeled for the eventual Universal release for us OS X guys.
It’s pretty funny, because it’s true. I sent it to a friend at my old company too because it was the worst there – no white space, etc. and I was always bitching to him about the designs being bastardized by the higher-ups. Good list of tips for us Photoshop users. Amanda says it’s worthy of printing out, which we’ll both probably end up doing at work: |

So here’s another example of Photoshopping hitting big media. Notice how the two middle missiles are almost completely identical, save a single black dot on the middle right one. Even more noticeable is the exact pattern in the smoke in the middle and right.
Man, it’s amazing how some of the logos in the article below have evolved over the years! I can’t believe the complexity of some of the earlier logos (like Apple). It’s amazing some of those could ever be reproduced in print, etc.
