So as our first born's due date looms closer and closer, I'm also approaching my promised deadline of no cycling for awhile. I'm totally dreading hitting the deadline, but want to be as accessible as possible should Amanda go into labor. Even today, while riding with the Trikes in Chapel Hill I had some reservations that I may get a phone call and be farther than I'd like when Amanda goes into labor.
Now this no-cycling zone for the next month or so doesn't hit for a little over another week and I'm making the most until then. Even after the deadline, I'll still be riding. It'll just be on the trainer — which is something I've been able to avoid for the majority of 2009. But, it's better than nothing.
That being said, I'm still making the most of it all up until my deadline, trying to ride every day, and racing one more time at my team's race next Sunday. I'm shooting for two bike commutes this week and a bunch of race training before the Orange County Speedway race. This weekend, I also made the most, getting a solo ride around Research Triangle Park Saturday, and a group ride with the Tri-Cyclists this morning. Both were great and completely satisfying. The Tarmac Expert is completely dialed in — with the RS-80 wheelset reinstalled, and the bike's stem flipped putting me into a lower and more aero position, especially in the drops.
Maybe I should re-examine rollers to keep riding my Tarmac (or Allez) indoors. Either way, I'm gonna keep the miles up and keep the wife happy as Tyler's birth becomes imminent.
