iPhone The iPhone’s second major release was oft hyped and many waited with baited breath for its release a few short weeks ago here in the summer of 2008.

So here are some random thoughts and opinions on the current state of the iPhone 2.0 software and the applications that came with it – most of which have already been said before:

Ryan Keefer, Tricyclist, PosterizedSo I haven’t been very strict as of late watching what I eat, but after lady night’s training ride, I was the lightest I’ve been since college.

While obviously watching what you eat helps, for me – sheer volume of exercise and calorie burning has been my solution.

The past two years, I’ve been spending more and more time in the bike saddle and I don’t see that changing any time soon. I’ve been regularly riding three times a week halfway to work with a total round trip of about 15 miles. That’s netting me 50 minutes of elevating my heart rate, over 1000 calories burned, plus the hilly route is helping me train a bit for my crits and road races.

All of this is in addition to the benefits of less gas burned in the 4Runner, more time outside and some great stress relief.

All in all, I’m finding bike commuting is benefiting me in health, training and a bit in the wallet. I highly recommend anyone that can integrate bike commuting, even once in awhile to do it.

Interesting read on what a Pro team eats. It makes sense that reduction of grains and red meat would be a good thing. We need to be eating more rice in our diets as well.

Ryan and Amanda Kayaking So Amanda’s old boss has a lake house about an hour north of us at Lake Gaston near the North Carolina / Virginia border, which he graciously allowed us to utilize this past weekend. After work Friday night, we took Bongo, our friend Bret and his two dogs (Peanut and Shelby) North to the Virginia border. We arrived after night had fallen and the house is a bit off the road, though still within a few miles of an I-85 exit. The two-story house sits on a corner of a near 90-degree turn on a mostly gravel laden road.

We rolled on up and unpacked the 4Runner, which was packed with enough crap for a week’s stay there – food and drink galore! We checked out the place, and settled in with the dogs, basically unpacking and soon after Amanda retired to bed. Bret and I hung out for awhile playing cards, mainly War, which I had never played. I know. I had a sheltered childhood… not a lot of cards. Mainly I played Skip-Bo and Uno growing up.

Just catching up on the final day of the 2008 Tour de France on Versus/TiVo tonight. I’ve gotta be honest, I’ve only had the chance to watch parts of like 6 of the stages this year between our travels, work home and my own cycling.

Congrats to CSC and Carlos Sastre for taking the tour. It’s cool to see all the CSC riders today with the yellow bar tape on their final stage bringing them from Étamps to Paris.

Tricyclists Web Site Screen ShotSo I finally got my race team’s new site up and running – Tricyclists. You may notice some real similarities between Keefer Madness and the Trikes’ new site. That’s because they’re both utilizing WordPress and the same base template – Mandigo. I’m sure there are other great templates that would serve the purpose, but I really love the template, its options and flexibility it’s allowed me on both sites.

The two will continue to organically develop apart from each other as I customize both style sheets, images, etc. in both. But regardless, I’m a huge fan of both WordPress and the Mandigo template, and the combination of the two have made both those sites better.

Regardless, I was slack getting the new Trikes site up, but now that it’s up, it seems everyone likes it. Hopefully we can keep it updated withe regular content and keep traffic flowing to it. Check it out if you get the chance.

Durham Athletic ParkAmanda sent this to me this morning and it would really be cool to become part of Durham, NC’s history. The Bulls’ original ball field is being renovated, and all the seats are being replaced. Seat “sponsorship” looks to range from $100/seat to $5000 for a box I believe.
