It's been tough getting any group rides in this year. Weekends, we've been travelling and/or busy. It's been real tough making it down to Carrboro/Chapel Hill to do the TriCyclists weekend group rides, and even more difficult for anything during the week – not to mention the rising gas prices (the bike rack *lives* on our 4Runner).
Anyway, today the North Raleigh Gyros started up a new ride that originates within riding distance of our house and at a time I can actually make. So I rode out there and barely made it. I think I was the youngest one out there by probably close to a decade. But it was a big group, with plenty of strong riders. It was cool to ride with a fairly big group through a lot of familar roads, but also hit some new roads not far from my own backyard.
I rode really strong throughout the ride – doing multiple long pulls on the front of the double paceline. Three of us pushed the pace on a stretch right near home. It was great to add some variety into my training regimen and am looking forward to making it a regular thing.
