No More Playstation 2 For Us

Playstation 2So spinning on the trainer yesterday in the game room, I booted up the Playstation 2 and played some old school NCAA Football 2003 (I think it was '03). Anyway, only minutes into playing, my console locked up (right after the first Tar Heel touchdown!). The last time I was on the bike, playiing Amplitude or Frequency, the console locked up. That being said, those are the only two times I've played that old console in a long time. In fact, its only real usage has been when we have friends are over and we've played some Karaoke Revolution.

No more. I traded in all my PS2 games today, along with the consoles and every single accessory. It was quite a transaction for Game Stop with a ton of games, a console, controllers and miscellaneous accessories. I've gotta say, their Edge card really helps up the amount you get for trade-ins (and buying used stuff there – 10% more either way). On top of the normal extra bucks that Edge card gives you, they had an extra 30% on trade-ins today.

So when the whole transaction was run through, the grand total was $268 for in-store credit. We could really use that cash this time of year, but this is where they really get you – the take home for a cash transaction for was like $160. Sure, that $160 would have been nice, but it's hard to give up that extra $108! So, we've got a $268 credit now at EB Games / Game Stop.

The good news is I should be able to get Rock Band now with credit left over. Amanda's going to demand that drum kit get stored when not in use, but I think she'll even have some fun with Rock Band with its ability to sing, drum and play the guitars… looking forward to that eventually. It won't happen any time soon, with the current state of my Xbox 360. Actually, the box/coffin for the 360 is finally supposed to arrive (over a full week after reporting the Red Ring of Death), so this will actually be the first time since I was really young that there hasn't been some sort of console in the house. I was thinking NES, but we had the Atari 2600/7800 before that. Wow. Long time ago!

Regardless, it was nice to declutter some this weekend between getting rid of the PS2, and cleaning out the office closet. Then again, I look forward to adding some new clutter in the new year, without paying anything for it.
