Man, there’s a lot that makes sense in this article, but I don’t think (and seriously hope not) that TiVo is doomed in the near future. Then again, this article is on a MS (UltimateTV creators)Web site:

I think this is probably a good thing for consumers. I wonder though how it will affect TiVo’s DirecTV relationship, if at all:

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday unanimously rejected the $13 billion merger of EchoStar Communications (DISH) and DirecTV, citing potential harm to consumers. FCC Chairman Michael Powell said letting the two satellite giants combine would create monopolies in some markets and duopolies in others, resulting in “less innovation and fewer benefits to consumers.” Regulators have worried since the deal was unveiled last year that the deal would effectively eliminate competition. The two companies, with 18 million customers, control almost the entire satellite-television market in the United States. DirecTV, owned by Hughes Electronics (GMH) , is the largest of the two operators.
