This is a very cool first step in terms of making quantum computing a possibility. Pretty cool.

Jef sent me this site. The prices are pretty nice and the shipping’s free. I think I saved about $10 over getting it at Amazon, even with their free shipping deal over $99. Check ‘em out.

While I can see where Haddad is coming from, I think more of this is that people are gonna go with what they’re familiar with. Most of the more technical people are going to be running an Intel box of some sort.

I think also in the business world (and elsewhere), the Macs have a creative stigma. I think most people’s view of the Macintosh is that it’s an artsy computer, not cable of running the business software.

Also, while the cost to support (or the lack of need to support it) Macs more than makes up for the Apples costing more, I think a lot of businesses can’t see beyond the bottom line. There’s an obvious over reliance on numbers.

While I know this is comparing apples and oranges (*ahem*), I think this comparison is done by people who have just a bit of knowledge about technology and we all know how dangerous that can be:

At the Apple store:
PowerMac 800MHz PowerPC G4
256K L2 cache
256MB SDRAM memory
40GB Ultra ATA drive
CD-RW drive
ATI Radeon 7500
56K internal modem
$1599

At Dell:
Intel P4 1.8 GHz
256MB PC800 RDRAM memory
40GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive
CD-RW drive
64MB NVIDIA GeForce2
56K internal modem
$1258 (plus a rebate I believe)

Now, I have both a Mac and PCs, and both have their merits, but I see why businesses lock into the PC market… the machines are cheaper for similiar hardware (though it’s hard to compare the processors as they’re way different)

Also, the software that the Mac comes with out the box is a lot better…
